Hi! I’m Jamie. Welcome to my blog!
Q: Who (or what)
is Ruby?
Ruby is the name of my guitar, a Hohner HW440
acoustic-electric, and Ruby In Mono is the semi-official name of my personal
music project, which you can read more about on the “Music” page, and in
various blog posts on this site. I have
co-opted it here to cover more than just my approach to music.
Q: What is up with
this blog?
Originally I started Ruby In Mono to develop the
eponymous music project, and that is an ongoing effort. More recently I’ve
added some travel reports, which you can read more about on the “Travel” page
and which feature some of my amateur photography, and a nebulous category
titled “Life” to catch posts that don’t fall under either heading. I suspect a
future category titled “Japan” may appear sooner rather than later.
Q: Who is Stix?
That’s me, Jamie. I am an architect by training, but that’s
not my main focus here. I have multifarious hobbies and interests- martial
arts, language study, cooking (and eating!), reading science fiction novels and
self-help books, practical minimalism, historical trivia and so forth, that I
will not address here except in passing. I currently live just outside of San
Francisco, California; I've lived in this area since 2003. I grew up in Upstate
New York, and two or three times a year I visit my family there. In four months I am moving to Japan (!)
Q: Where do you get the photos in your posts?
I take the photos myself, either with my trusty Iphone camera, or with my nifty Sony NEX-5N ILS camera. On a few old archive posts, I had included concert or stock photos from other sources (credited), but going forward I plan to use my own photos, or none.
